(Mar, 13, 2005: wow, this is old! will be updated eventually!)

For me, taking pictures was nothing more than just that until 1995. It was simply a way to capture memories. In October of 1995 I went to see Dead Voices On Air and Download play at the Rivoli in Toronto, and on a whim I borrowed my brother's camera. The camera was more than just a point-and-shoot and had many features I didn't know how to use. The camera also did not have a built in flash. I decided against a flash attachment because the Rivoli is a cozy place and I felt a flash would be disruptive to the performance, performers and audience.  The photos turned out dark, blurry and sometimes indecipherable, but I loved them! They were fluid, colourful and intense, and trully captured the mood of the show.

And that's how it all started. I began to pay more attention to what I was seeing, take more photographs and buy my own camera. After a long search I have recently acquired a Macro lense that I am simply thrilled with!  I still have an infinite amount to learn, but my preferences have clearly emerged in the past 5 years. More than anything, I am drawn to textures and a truly in-depth view of the subject.  d e s t r u c t u r e  There's a pattern here... When I was young, I wanted to be an archaeologist, now I'm studying to be a psychologist - can you see the connection? Let's dig a little deeper...

I am much more drawn to what I can naturally find around me, as opposed to any kind of staged scene, and the same is true for lighting. Simply put, I like to take a close look at what is, as it is. Abstract photography is a natural extention of this preferance for me. The organic patterns of nature are so much more beautiful than anything that is human-made.  Beauty out of context...beauty of it's own accord.  I like my photographs not only when they look good, but when they make me feel  something too, creating a sort of movement that is beyond words.

I hope you enjoy what you see here and that you are moved in many ways. Your comments are warmly welcomed! All photographs are available for sale, and prices vary depending on size and framing options. If you would like more detailed information, do contact me.

Enjoy,
